From the experiment, they noted that gratitude was collective among the customers that purchased experiences compared to those who bought material. 

When commenting about gratitude feelings, we find that more inspiration is in people that either visited a venue, took a trip, or ate a meal compared to when they talked about the gadgets or furniture they have bought. It is according to the Emotion journal. 

According to Jesse Walker, Cornell graduate student of psychology states that more gratitude is elicited when someone makes experiential purchases since they do have the same social comparison as the material possessions do. To prove their second hypothesis on which people are more generous. The team gave the people $10 to divide between an anonymous person and themselves.
