Tips to Designing a Stand Out Poster

When creating a poster to advertise your next event or to sell a product, there are few design techniques to keep in mind. It’s not worth creating a poster that no one will look at, so make sure you put your energy into something that will catch people’s attention.

Size Matters

When you’re trying to catch a potential customer’s eye, size matters. It’s not worth it to print 50 letter sized signs when a couple of banners and posters will draw more attention. If you have a plotter, contact design jets repair Loudoun County VA to make sure it’s in good working order, and then use it. If you don’t own one, you can always outsource your printing needs.

Contrast Colors

You may love all shades of green, but there may not be enough contrast between dark and light green to really stand out. Instead, pick a dark color and contrast it with white print, or on the flip side, choose a light color and contrast it with black print. Put your main message in large block letters rather than fancy script. The key is for your customers to understand the poster from 10 feet away. If they are intrigued, they will move in closer for the detailed information.

Go Big

Choose a big simple image for your poster. Don’t get too technical or complicated or you risk losing your audience. Think about political ads that feature a flag or an eagle. The message is conveyed through one symbolic image. You can certainly include smaller images around the edges or at the bottom of the poster, but they should not confuse the overall visual.

Say What’s Important

Make sure all the important information is included somewhere on your poster. A rookie mistake is to announce an event but not include the date or contact information if someone has questions. Proofread your work several times and have others look at too before you hit “print”.

Posters are a great way to get the word out. Make yours stand out by following a few simple design techniques.
